Our Mother has lived at Willoughby Retirement Village since 2010. We can't speak highly enough of WRCA and the caring, quality home they provide for Mum. They have adapted to her changing needs over the years and have always treated her with respect. Staff are permanent and there is little staff turnover. This makes life much easier for the residents and for their families. The fact that it has a 5 star rating says it all. It is a community-based, not for profit home. We are very grateful that she is there.

Mum was so happy at Willoughby she really enjoyed her time there everyone was so kind and friendly – a credit to you all at WRCA. After turning 107 this month (who does that!!!) just extraordinary. Amazing - what can I say!! I have booked myself into Willoughby for when I reach retirement however, looking like I might have Mother's genes - still working full time!

How happy we are here in Willoughby Retirement Village! This move was the best decision we ever made. We love it here. Everyone is friendly and welcoming. The maintenance team and the office team are outstanding and the apartment is really beautiful. So much storage!! Self closing cabinets! Whoever designed or renovated it did a wonderful job. And the gorgeous park at our fingertips; we walk there twice every day.

During COVID-19 Lock-down of Willoughby Hostel.
Dear Maryanne,I would like you to know how good today was from start to finish. Saturdays are usually quiet but for Ellen’s Bingo.
Today the meals were very enjoyable. The staff were amazingly happy & helpful.
Then fortunately, Lily and Charmy told me, as they came to do linen change, that Bingo was on.
Telma did a quiz, which most love. Then played Bingo.
At 1.30pm, Telma did quizzes, games all activities which asked you to think, which is, as you well know, essential in the aged.
So actually, the entertainment I have had today made for a wonderful Saturday in this extraordinary world in which everyone now lives.
Sincerely
Jo Lannan
P.S. Please excuse the writing – the arthritis is winning JL.

Bruce was a quiet gentle giant who for nearly 20 years regarded Willoughby Village and those within it as his home and family.

After my wife passed away, I decided to move into a retirement village. I looked at quite a few and decided that best by far was the Willoughby Retirement Community Association – a not-for-profit village in Douglas Avenue Chatswood. The contract does not go far enough in describing the amenities and friendliness of the village. I found that the financial side of the contract was unbeatable compared to others. At my age I need a little help now and then and it is always there from the staff – thank you. For a small fee I now have my midday dinner 5 days a week at the Hostel next door, and after that the evening meal is easy for me to prepare in my own unit such as soup or so after the big lunch. There is no stress in my life after 72 years working as a master butcher in North Sydney and Cammeray.Thank you for the wonderful life I have at the village living with people my own age (and younger) and the friendliness.

All the staff are all really happy to come to work. We have an exceptional group of people whom we help. It’s like an extended family. The staff know the Residents and their families and the Residents know our children. You know our stories. It makes for a very peaceful home.

I have been a Resident in Willoughby Hostel for two and a half years and have not heard a cross or impatient word. People with Alzheimer’s are treated with respect and caring kindness. I used to be an RN and I don’t give praise readily. The care and attention I and other Residents receive from the RNs and PCAs has been absolutely fantastic.I have always lived in Chatswood and in later years, visited friends in Willoughby Retirement Village giving me an insight into this establishment. As a nurse, I visited retirement villages in the area and as my mobility decreased, I had tours of any new establishments. An interview with Director of Resident Care, Maryanne gave me what I was seeking, the PROMISE OF CARE.Maryanne is an incredible leader and mentor with the ability to select very good staff. The carers demonstrate amazing patience and kindness. We have a doctor who visits each Monday, a hairdresser, a podiatrist and a very special diversional therapist who arranges visiting entertainers. The financial situation is managed very efficiently by the CEO, Lindy and she is also very helpful to everyone.

Everything I ask the staff they do it for me and they do other things outside of what I’ve asked. They do a wonderful job. Whatever you want. I’ve had to get people in the middle of the night and there’s no hesitation. It’s always done. The girls here certainly have good teamwork. Staff here are happy and Residents are happy.

My appreciation and gratitude for the remarkable co-ordination achieved by Greg and his terrific team for completing the studio for my occupation date – all beautifully done with cheerful and considerate reassurance throughout. Your good wishes and welcome are warmly reciprocated – it is a great pleasure to be accepted as a self-care resident in your beautifully run village

I’m sincerely grateful and think we should get young trainees here to learn how Willoughby Hostel does it. The staff are always happy. They are like an extended family.

You have a one in a million DON in Maryanne. She is incredibly professional and perceptive of the client’s and family’s needs. The fact that there is little turnover of staff speaks volumes of the management at WRV.
